Pathways to learning
British Early Years Foundation Stage
Our daily Nursery programme is built on the framework provided by the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This framework requires educational programmes to be shaped by the following seven areas of learning:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive Arts and Design
Of these, the first three areas are particularly crucial for igniting childrens' curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.
LEARNING TREE PHILOSOPHY & THE EYFS
DELIVERY - The Learning Journey
To ensure effective delivery of the curriculum, our teachers have designed customized programmes based on the core values of the Learning Tree Philosophy. Through these inspiring programmes, our teachers nurture creativity, encourage exploration and discovery, build confidence and develop problem solving skills during planned, purposeful play. Hands on activities with a strong focus on art and self expression promote active construction of meaning. Education is an experience at The Learning Tree Nursery.
The Learning Tree programme has the following key features:
the 'mobile classroom': We believe in the power of educational settings to inspire. With this in mind, children use the entire facility during their day as they move between themed spaces while discovering and making sense of the world. They are also given control over the direction of their learning through free flow activities in a supportive and enriching environment. Through our programmes, we strive to unleash the unfettered imagination of every child here at The Learning Tree Nursery.
- small and intimate group settings: Within our classes, teachers focus on smaller and more intimate group settings with a variety of activities and projects providing opportunities to explore, interact and learn. Children thrive in small group settings that allow for a high level of individual student attention as well as confidence in all forms of self-expression.
ASSESSMENT
Ongoing assessment is an integral part of the learning and development process as per the EYFS framework. Our teachers are trained to observe the children to understand their level of achievement, interests and learning styles and they use this data to inform their lesson planning to ensure best results.
Parents are kept up to date with their child's progress against early learning goals and development through regular parent-teacher meetings, the Learning Journal, and our supportive home-school partnership policy that welcomes open communication between you and your child's class teacher. Our teachers will also advise how this information can be used to support learning at home through weekly newsletters.
